Professor Boyle Signs the Million Signatures Petition: Encourages others to follow to hold the genociders accountable

Today [June 3rd] Professor Boyle signs the Million Signature Campaign, urging the United Nations to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court or to establish a similar credible International Judicial Mechanism for investigation and prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed against the Tamil people by the Sri Lankan State during the final stages of the Armed Conflict between the Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 2009.

While signing the petition, Professor Boyle said, “I would like to commend the TGTE and it’s Prime Minister my friend, my client Rudrakumaran, for this very important petition–Million Person Petition– To the United Nations to refer the highest level officials of the government of Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court.

As you know this was spurred by the fact that attempts are being made right now to side track the investigation by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights into the genocide war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the highest level officials of the government of Sri Lanka in the 2009 massacre of about 150,000 Tamils in Vanni. Regretfully it does appear that the United States government is involved in this matter.

So I think it’s extremely important that we all sign this petition and hold the United Nation’s feet to the fire here. And not settle for side tracking into some type of bogus domestic accountability mechanism, or, also, into some hybrid type international domestic so called accountability mechanism. All these hybrid tribunals have been a joke or a fraud and highly political in the past, and the same thing will happen here. So I’m now going to sign the petition, and I would certainly, everyone, encourage you all to do the same.
