2011-08-11 Condemnation for Ms. Tamilvani

PRESS RELEASE

As the Minister for the Welfare of Women, Children and Elderly in the Transnational Government of   Tamil Eelam, I strongly condemn the shocking and gender insensitive remarks recently made by the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa when referring to Ms Tamilvani, a British Tamil woman of Tamil Eelam origin, in his interview to the Indian TV news channel Headlines Today aired on 9 August 2011. Such boorish, coarse and blatantly insensitive comments made by a high ranking official of the Government of Sri Lanka are indicative of the brutality Tamil women face under that tyrannical and despotic regime.

The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam and the Tamil Diaspora are proud of the sincere and selfless assistance rendered by Ms Tamilvani whilst being caught up in the massacres and humanitarian disaster that befell the Tamil population in early 2009. Her crucial evidence to Channel 4 was indeed the beginning of the revelation of what exactly took place in the cruel final phase of the war.

We call on the international community to join us in condemning Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s callous, derogatory and irresponsible statements about a honourable Tamil woman.
